Annual Donald J. Waldon scholarship banquet

The Donald J. Waldon Memorial Scholarship was established in 1976, in honor and memory of Brother Waldon, a Charter Member and second president of the Iota Alpha Lambda Chapter (IAL) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Since its inception, the Donald J. Waldon Memorial Scholarship has provided full, academic scholarships to Cecil College and Harford Community College students. Associate degrees from those schools continue to propel scholarship recipients toward earning four-year and advanced degrees and into productive careers.

The Donald J. Waldon Memorial Scholarship is one of several non-government sources for financing college level academics in Cecil and Harford Counties. IAL is honored to be a part of this multi-group effort to enhance the positive development of our youth.

Designed to provide young men with current and accurate information about teen pregnancy prevention, Project Alpha consists of a series of workshops and informational sessions conducted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity brothers.

Sharing Table

The Sharing Table, a non-profit coalition of churches and other community organizations organized in 1993, is dedicated to reaching out to fellow citizens in need.  We believe that by serving one meal a week, we can make life a little easier and help extend the resources of many families.  The Sharing Table places no qualifications upon those we serve, but welcomes all to our table.

Adopt A Highway

The Maryland Department Of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) Adopt-A-Highway Program lets community groups show their state pride and keep the Free State litter-free. Keeping our roadways free from litter and debris improves the health of our environment. It enhances the experience of driving in Maryland - for both residents and visitors. Since the Adopt-A-Highway Program started in 1989, MDOT SHA has partnered with more than 120,000 Marylanders who have cleaned over 15,000 miles of roadside.

A Voteless People is a Hopeless People

“A Voteless People is a Hopeless People” (aka VPHP) was initiated as a National Program of Alpha during the 1930’s when many African-Americans had the right to vote but were prevented from voting because of poll taxes, threats of reprisal, and lack of education about the voting process. Voter education and registration have remained a dominant focus of this outreach activity for over 65 years. In the 1990’s, the focus shifted to include political awareness and empowerment, delivered most frequently through town meetings and candidate forums.
